This classic and refreshing Moscow Mule is flavored with ginger beer and lime. It’s served icy cold and it comes together in minutes!
Get out your copper mugs, we’re making Moscow Mules! This is one of the easiest cocktails you can make at home. No fancy technique, no special equipment, and only 3 ingredients!
A Moscow Mule is flavored with ginger beer and freshly squeezed lime juice. I absolutely love cocktails featuring the flavors of fresh citrus. Whether it’s lemon juice in a French 75, orange juice in Rum Punch, or lime juice in a Frozen Margarita. Citrus flavored cocktails are so smooth and refreshing, and in this Moscow Mule the combination of lime and ginger is perfect.
How to Make a Moscow Mule
Start by gathering the following ingredients:
- Vodka
- Ginger Beer
- Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice
Fill a glass or copper mug halfway with crushed ice. Add vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice and give it a stir. Taste it and adjust the ingredients to suit your preference. Add more crushed ice (if desired), garnish with a wedge of lime, and drink up!
What is Ginger Beer?
One of the key ingredients in a Moscow Mule is ginger beer. Ginger beer is a non-alcoholic sweetened carbonated beverage that tastes like ginger. Think of it like ginger ale, but with more flavor.
You can purchase ginger beer near the cocktail mixers in most grocery stores. I have seen it in bottles, cans, and 1 liters with light and regular options available. I recommend trying a few different brands until you find your favorite. Some have stronger/spicier flavors than others.
Why use a Copper Mug?
A Moscow Mule is traditionally served in a copper mug. Not only does this make for a fun presentation, but it also ensures that your drink will stay really cold. If you don’t have copper mugs, you can use any cocktail glass.
Recipe Tips
- My number one tip for any cocktail that you make at home is to adjust the ingredients to suit your taste. Use the recipe as a guide and play around with the portions of ingredients until you get your perfect drink.
- Make sure your ingredients are cold. I keep the vodka in my freezer and ginger beer in my fridge. Starting with cold ingredients will help your Moscow Mule from becoming diluted when the ice melts.
- If you’re planning on making Moscow Mules frequently I recommend investing in double walled copper mugs. They will keep your drinks colder longer and reduce condensation from forming on the outside.
If a Moscow Mule isn’t your thing, you can try one of these other delicious cocktails: White Sangria, Peach Sangria, Champagne Cocktail, Classic Margarita, Amaretto Sour, or Pineapple Strawberry Mimosas. Cheers!
