Everything Bagel Pigs in a Blanket are one of the most easy appetizers you could ever make! Mini smoked sausages are rolled up in crescent roll dough and sprinkled with everything bagel seasoning then baked until golden. Pick your dipping sauce and you are good to go!
Appetizers aren’t just for parties and they aren’t just for kids! They are a fun way to make movie nights special or make dinner on a night you don’t feel like cooking. I could easily make a meal out of these pigs in a blanket, Fried Ravioli and Shrimp Cocktail. Just add some cut up raw veggies and you’ve got a delicious finger foods meal!
I love adding everything bagel seasoning to my favorite foods. It adds so much umami (savory) flavor when you just sprinkle a little on top and adding it to these little smokies crescents was pure genius.
The original Pigs in a Blanket is a wildly popular breakfast food made with sausages rolled up in pancakes. You can find them on the menu at just about any breakfast joint. This appetizer version uses little smokies sausages and crescent rolls.
Pigs in a Blanket
I love appetizers like these because they are so easy to make and everyone loves them. You only need 2 ingredients, little smokies sausages and crescent roll dough. If you can’t find the smokies, you can use cut up hot dogs or a whole smoked sausage cut lengthwise into quarters, then 2-inch long chunks. Each of these options would have the same baking time as indicated in the recipe below.
The best appetizers are sometimes the most simple, and this recipe definitely fits in that category. Little smokies are savory, salty and go perfectly with the buttery flavor from the crescents. The everything bagel seasoning on top adds a burst of garlicky, onion flavor to boot. All you need is your favorite dip!
How to Make Pigs in a Blanket with Everything Bagel Seasoning
- Pat the sausages dry with paper towels if needed. Sometimes the smokies are a little wet coming out of the package.
- Cut crescent dough into strips and wrap a strip around each piece of sausage.
- Brush with butter and sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning.
- Bake until golden and puffy. Since the sausages are already cooked, you only need to make sure the dough is cooked through.

What is Everything Bagel Seasoning Made of?
This seasoning, made popular by its use on bagels, is salty and has the distinct flavors of onions and garlic. You can easily make your own batch and store it in your pantry. You need a tablespoon each of dried onion, dried garlic, sesame seeds and poppy seeds, and 2 teaspoons of kosher salt. Store in an airtight jar in your pantry.
Can you make Pigs in a Blanket ahead of time?
Absolutely! Roll the sausages in the crescent dough and place on a baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. Put them in the oven straight out of the fridge.
Storing Leftovers
Keep any leftover pigs in a blanket in an airtight container or resealable plastic bag in the fridge. They are great to have on hand for a quick snack. Just reheat in the oven at 350 degrees for 4-5 minutes.
Variations
I have seen several ideas floating around for how to make these even tastier:
- Add a small piece of cheddar cheese in with the sausage.
- Wrap a piece of bacon around the sausage before wrapping in the dough.
- You could even wrap a larger piece of dough around an entire hot dog for a unique substitute for a traditional bun. Bake for the same amount of time.
