Ingredients and Substitutions
This Air Fryer Shrimp recipe uses simple, easy to find ingredients. See what you need below including substitution and swap ideas for making shrimp in the air fryer:
- Raw Shrimp – Peeled and deveined, but tails are optional. If you buy frozen, thaw the shrimp first. I recommend medium or jumbo shrimp; they will yield more plump and succulent results.
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Garlic – Fresh and minced is best. Using a garlic press always works great for me.
- Fresh Parsley
- Lemon Juice – Fresh squeezed lemon juice is preferred.
- Spices – Seasoned salt, salt, and pepper. You can also use other spice blends such as cajun, lemon pepper, or old bay. Even my All Purpose Seasoning is delicious. This is a great recipe to customize with your favorite spices!
How to Make Air Fryer Shrimp
See the recipe card below for full, detailed instructions
In the time it takes you to preheat your air fryer (only minutes!) you can toss the shrimp with seasoning. It takes less than 10 minutes to cook shrimp in your air fryer!
Preheat: Start by getting your air fryer preheating to 400 degrees F. If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheat function, then just let it run empty for a few minutes.
Mix Shrimp: Mix together the raw, thawed shrimp with the olive oil, minced garlic, minced parsley, and spices. Gently toss until it is evenly combined and the shrimp is coated in the spices.
Air Fry: Add the shrimp in a single layer inside your air fryer basket. Depending on your air fryer size, you may need to cook in batches. Air fry for about 8 minutes until the shrimp are cooked – pink and opaque.
Serve: Serve the shrimp with lemon wedges. I love an extra spritz of lemon juice and sprinkle of parsley.
How Do You Know When Shrimp is Cooked?
Color is the easiest way to tell that shrimp is done. Raw shrimp is gray and slightly translucent but is fully cooked when it has just turned opaque and pink. Be careful not to overcook shrimp as they can become tough.

Storage and Reheating Tips
Storage – Leftover, cooked shrimp can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge. The shrimp will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Reheating – Leftover shrimp can be reheated in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for just a few minutes until warmed. You can also microwave them until warm – it doesn’t take long, about 30 seconds. You can even eat leftover shrimp cold on top of a salad.
Check out my best tips and tricks for making shrimp in the air fryer.
- Preheat your Air Fryer – For best results and extra crispy shrimp, make sure you preheat your air fryer before adding the shrimp. If your air fryer doesn’t have a pre-heat function, you can just run the air fryer empty at the temp for a few minutes to heat it up.
- Quickly thaw frozen shrimp – To make air fryer frozen shrimp, you can thaw frozen shrimp by running them under cold water until the ice has melted. This only takes a few minutes.
- Buy peeled and deveined shrimp – Buying pre-peeled and deveined shrimp is such a time saver! It’s up to you if you want to have tails on or off.
- Adjust time accordingly – if you’re using frozen raw shrimp, you may need to increase the cooking time by a minute or two versus if you used fresh.Â
