Why We Love This Meatball Sliders Recipe

  • Just 4 Ingredients – Pull together some meatballs (either frozen or homemade meatballs will work), slider buns, marinara sauce, and cheese.
  • Quick and Easy – Heat the meatballs, taste the buns with cheese, then assemble the sliders. They’re ready in about 20 minutes.
  • Tasty – Juicy meatballs in marinara sauce topped with melted cheese. These little handheld bites are truly irresistible.

Ingredient Notes

  • Meatballs – You can make one of my meatball recipes like turkey meatballs, Italian Sausage meatballs, or ground beef meatballs. They all take about 20 minutes to make from scratch. You can also skip the hassle and use frozen meatballs.
  • Slider Buns – Usually, I use Hawaiian rolls, but I prefer slider buns, which are like mini hamburger buns. They aren’t sweet which I prefer with meatball sliders. Dinner rolls will work too.
  • Cheese – I use both freshly grated mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese. The mozzarella really should be grated by hand rather than buying a pre-shredded bag for optimal melting.
  • Marinara or Pasta Sauce – Just your favorite jarred sauce is all you need, but you could also try my homemade marinara or spaghetti sauce.

How To Make Easy Meatball Sliders

See the recipe card below for full, detailed instructions

  1. Make the meatballs. Use your preferred method to either bake or thaw and heat the meatballs. Just heat as many as you need.
  2. Coat meatballs in sauce. If using frozen meatballs, heat them up with some on the stove. For fresh meatballs, just toss them with some heated sauce.
  3. Bake. Split the buns in half and place them open faced onto a baking sheet. Sprinkle Mozzarella cheese and Italian seasoning on each half and bake until the cheese is melted and bread gets a little crispy around the edges. They take only a few minutes.
  4. Assemble meatball sliders. Place a meatball onto the bottom half of each bun. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top of each meatball and replace the top of the bun.

Serving Suggestions

Serve either as a main course for lunch or dinner, or as an appetizer.

Appetizer: Serve sliders alongside lighter snacks, like Crab Dip Cheese Ball, Deviled Eggs, and BLT Dip.

Main Course: Serve with some of our favorite sides like Garlic Green Beans, Caprese Pasta Salad, Carrot Salad, or even just a Vegetable Pasta Salad.

Recipe Tips

  • What kind of bread is best? I prefer to use slider buns rather than Hawaiian rolls, although you can certainly use either. The Hawaiian rolls are sweet and don’t pair as well with the meatballs.
  • Storage and Reheating – Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for a couple of days and reheat in the oven. I don’t recommend microwaving because they can become soggy. Likewise, any more than two days and the bread will be soggy and not very tasty. Do not freeze whole sandwiches.
  • Use your favorite pasta sauce. I love Costco’s marinara personally, but anything you enjoy is fine, including homemade.
  • Topping – I didn’t want to go crazy with ingredients, but you could make and melt some Garlic Butter to brush on top, sprinkle with a little dried parsley, and bake for a few minutes.
