RECIPE WALK-THROUGH

How To Make Baked Queso Blanco

See the recipe card below for full, detailed instructions

Gather your ingredients. You could use other white cheeses instead of the ones shown, like White American Cheese, Mozzarella or Monterey Jack.

Cream cheese beaten with a hand mixer in a bowl.

Beat cream cheese with electric mixer until smooth. This step will help the dip become more creamy.

Cream cheese, shredded white cheeses and green chiles mixed together in a bowl.

Add in remaining ingredients, and mix on low to combine. Spread into the prepared baking dish or a medium-sized cast iron skillet.

Queso blanco dip baked with golden brown spots on top

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until golden and bubbly. For browning, cook under the broiler for 3-5 minutes. Watch closely to avoid burning.

Garnish with fresh jalapeno slices and serve immediately!

Recipe Tips

  • Slow Cooker or Microwave Dip – Make this Queso Blanco in a crockpot for an easy slow cooker cheese dip, and if you’re short on time, you could even microwave.
  • Make It Spicy – If you want it spicier, swap the can of green chiles for jalapenos.
  • Different Cheese – Can’t find Fontina? Swap it out for mozzarella. If you don’t want any heat, you could use regular monterey jack instead of pepper jack. White American cheese would also be delicious in this dip. The key is to use cheeses that melt easily.
  • Cream Cheese – I recommend using full fat cream cheese for the creamiest consistency and best flavor.
  • Shred Your Own Cheese – Shred the cheese fresh off the block for dips like this where you want consistent melting. The pre-shredded cheese has a coating that prevents proper melting.
  • For A Thinner Dip – This dip has a thick consistency, rather than the kind you would make on the stovetop. If you want a thinner consistency, replace the Fontina cheese with shredded white American cheese and add a splash of milk while beating the cream cheese.

Serving Suggestions

This queso blanco dip is best served hot and as fresh out of the oven as possible.

Baked Queso Blanco goes perfectly with other Mexican-inspired appetizers like Nachos Supreme, Guacamole, and Crispy Chicken Flautas.

If you want more of a traditional game day spread, serve it with Jalapeno Poppers, BBQ Chicken Sliders, and Crispy Baked Buffalo Wings.

Storage Tips

The Best Way to Store Leftovers

This dip is best served immediately.

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and eaten within 2-3 days. You can reheat in the microwave at 50% power to keep the cheese from separating. I don’t recommend freezing it.

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Spray a 2-quart baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese with electric mixer until smooth. This will help the dip be more creamy. Add remaining ingredients, mix on low to combine. Spread into the prepared baking dish or a medium-sized cast iron skillet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until golden and bubbly. For browning, cook under the broiler for 3-5 minutes. Watch closely to avoid burning.

Other cheeses you could use instead – White American, Monterey Jack or Mozzarella.
This is a thick and creamy dip. For a thinner consistency, more like nacho cheese, use White American in place of the Fontina, and add a splash of milk when beating the cream cheese.
