  • Chicken Nuggets – Go for premium, lightly breaded nuggets or boneless wings for the best taste and texture.
  • Mini Waffles – Frozen mini waffles work great, but you can also cut larger waffles into quarters or make your own.
  • Hot Sauce & Thyme – These add depth to the syrup, but you can adjust or omit them based on preference.

How To Make Chicken and Waffle Sliders

See the recipe card below for full, detailed instructions

These sliders are such a simple and fun dish to throw together! Make them as an appetizer, a fun breakfast, or a quick after-school snack!

Preheat oven to 400℉ – Bring the maple syrup, melted butter, thyme, and hot sauce to a boil in a small saucepan. Remove from heat and pour half of the mixture into a large bowl.

Cook Nuggets – Cook chicken nuggets according to package directions. Air-frying is the best option for crispiness.

Toss with Sauce – Coat the chicken by tossing the cooked nuggets in the flavored syrup mixture.

Toast – Toast the waffles on a baking sheet in the oven for 3-5 minutes until lightly crisp.

Assemble the Sliders – Assemble the sliders by placing a glazed chicken nugget between two mini waffles. Use a toothpick if needed to hold them together.

Enjoy – Serve immediately with extra flavored syrup for dipping.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don’t have chicken nuggets?

You could use boneless wings or chicken strips cut into pieces that match the size of the waffles. I really like the Kirkland brand lightly breaded chicken breast chunks. They are the perfect size and are lightly coated with breading, making it so that there is a good amount of chicken in each nugget.

Help! I can’t find mini waffles at the store!

If you can’t find the mini frozen waffles you could use the larger waffles, just cut them down to the size you want. Quarters usually work the best. You could also make your own homemade mini waffles. If making fresh waffles, you do not need to toast them in the oven since they will already be hot.

Serving Suggestions

  • Thyme and hot sauce just add a slight savoriness to the syrup which goes really well with the chicken. These can be omitted if desired.
  • If you like things on the spicier side, you can increase the amount of hot sauce to your liking.

Storage Tips

Storage and Reheating

These sliders are best served hot, immediately. The waffles tend to get soggy if you try and hold them over.

If you do have leftovers, store them separately and reheat separately as well for the best results.

Recipe Tips

  • Homemade waffles? There’s no need to toast them in the oven since they’ll already be warm.
  • No mini waffles? Cut larger waffles into quarters for the perfect size.
  • Doubling the recipe is easy—just increase all ingredients accordingly.

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400℉.
  • In a small saucepan bring the syrup, butter, thyme and hot sauce to a boil, then remove from heat and pour ½ of this mixture into a large bowl.
  • Cook chicken nuggets in the oven or air fryer according to package directions, use an air fryer for the crispiest results. Remove and toss the nuggets into the bowl with the flavored syrup, tossing to coat the chicken.
  • Lay out mini waffles in a single layer on a large baking sheet lined with a wire rack or aluminum foil.
  • Toast mini waffles in the oven until lightly toasted, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Top 12 mini waffles with the glazed chicken nuggets and top with the remaining waffles. You can use a toothpick pressed through the center to hold the sliders together.
  • Serve sliders immediately with extra flavored syrup.

Notes

  • These sliders are best when served immediately and do not hold well as leftovers as the waffle gets soggy from the syrup in a short amount of time.
  • For an interesting twist you can serve with dill, sweet or bread and butter pickle slices.
