This garlic cheese toast goes with any meal, but it’s especially perfect for Spaghetti and Meatballs, One Pot Chicken Alfredo Recipe, and Creamy Chicken Pesto Pasta.

Why It Works

  • Super kid-friendly and goes with anything like Steak or Oven Baked Chicken Breasts.
  • A quick and easy recipe that’s easy to scale to make a few or a bunch.
  • Make a bunch and freeze individual garlic cheese toasts for later.

Ingredients for Garlic Cheese Toast

  • Butter – soften a stick of butter on the counter for about an hour. If you forget to take it out of the fridge, you can microwave at 50% for 5-10 seconds. Use unsalted butter so you can control the salt level.
  • Parsley – minced finely, it adds color and flavor to the garlic bread.
  • Garlic – 3 cloves of garlic, minced. You can also use a teaspoon of garlic powder (or more) if you don’t have fresh.
  • Mozzarella cheese – grated fresh off the block. Pre-packaged cheese doesn’t melt as well as fresh.
  • Cheddar cheese – grated fresh off the block.
  • Parmesan Cheese – fresh is best, but in a pinch the canned cheese will work fine.
  • Bread – You need a thick sliced white bread, sometimes called “Texas Toast”or other thick sliced white bread. For individual toasts, thicker bread is best as thinner bread will get soggy.

How To Make It

Preheat the oven and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.

Mix together softened butter, minced garlic, and fresh chopped parsley. Stir in a pinch of salt and then spread on each slice of bread from end to end.

Expert Tips and FAQ’s

  • Bread should be the same thickness. You can also use a loaf sliced in half.
  • This recipe is for a whole batch (10 slices) but it can be reduced into individual portions.
  • Feel free to customize the cheeses. Try white cheddar, or jack cheese, Fontina or Gruyere.
  • Storage: save leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat on it’s oven in the oven or air fryer, or use stuff some meat between two slices and make a cheesy sandwich.
Can you freeze garlic cheese toast?

Yes! This bread is perfect for keeping on hand in the freezer. Prepare the bread as directed, but don’t bake it. Lay the slices out on a baking tray and flash freeze for 1-2 hours. Once firm, place the sliced in a freezer bag so they are ready when you are! Bake frozen at the same temperature and add a few extra minutes.

Krsisten these look & sound so delicious. I can’t wait to try them. To make ahead, here’s a tip I came up with. Follow the directions all the way through topping the bread slices with the garlic butter spread & cheeses. Then, lay each slice of bread between 2 pieces of wax paper. Wrapping each slice of bread between wax paper will prevent the cheese from sticking to the other bread slices. Place each wrapped bread slice into a Ziptop plastic bag & seal tightly or place in a plastic container. Refrigerate until ready to bake. Prior to baking, remove from frig about 30 minutes prior to baking to bring to room temperature.
